Abstract

A quasi-experimental one-group pre-post-test repeated measures design was used to compare the mean score of knowledge, attitude, behavioral Intentions, and perceived effectiveness of HIV/AIDS preventive behavior during the pre-intervention, post-intervention, and follow-up period among adolescents in non-formal education, Chawang district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Stratified random sampling was used in this study. The sample size, calculated using G*power version 3.2 to compare the means of two dependent groups based on the inclusion criteria, was approximately 220 participants. Three experts validated the program. The reliability of the instruments was tested with thirty adolescents. The HIV knowledge questionnaire was evaluated using the Kuder-Richardson (KR-20) method, yielding a reliability coefficient of 0.81. The attitudes toward HIV/AIDS preventive behaviors scale, the behavioral intentions for HIV/AIDS prevention questionnaire, and the perceived effectiveness of HIV/AIDS preventive behaviors scale were assessed using Cronbach’s alpha, yielding readability coefficients of 0.80 0.80 and 0.96, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and repeated measures analysis of variance. The findings revealed that the mean scores of HIV knowledge, attitudes toward HIV/AIDS prevention, behavioral intentions for HIV/AIDS prevention, and perceived effectiveness of HIV/AIDS preventive behaviors were significantly higher at the post-intervention phase (Day4) and the follow-up period (Day 15) compared to the pre-intervention phase, with statistical significance at the 0.01 level. The results of this study demonstrated that HIV/AIDS prevention programs can enhance knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS prevention, leading to increased intentions and perceived preventive behaviors to reduce the risk of HIV infection.
