Abstract

This research aimed to study the effect of a telehealth service model for people living with HIV (PLHIV), which involved remote medical follow-up, treatment, and clinical consultation, along with promoting treatment adherence through a remote system. The sample consisted of 50 PLHIV who were receiving antiretroviral therapy at Krathum Baen Hospital in Samut Sakhon Province, Thailand. Participants were selected using purposive sampling and divided into an experimental group and a comparison group, with 25 participants in each group. The research instruments included: (1) a manual for providing care to PLHIV through a telehealth service model, (2) a manual for activities promoting treatment adherence (3) a health behavior record book, and (4) a questionnaire assessing the outcomes of the telehealth service model, which was validated for content validity, clarity, and language appropriateness by three experts. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation), the independent t-test, and the Mann–Whitney U test. The research findings indicated that the experimental group utilizing the telehealth service model showed better mean cost, mean duration of service use, mean treatment adherence, mean CD4 counts, and viral load (VL) levels compared to the comparison group using the standard healthcare service model. These differences were statistically significant (p<0.05). In conclusion, the telehealth service model for PLHIV can promote treatment adherence behavior and result in improved CD4 counts and VL levels.
