Abstract

Persons living with HIV need to have appropriate behaviors to prevent tuberculosis (TB) as TB can accelerate the progression to AIDS. However, there is currently no questionnaire available to assess tuberculosis prevention behaviors among people living with HIV. This study aimed to translate a questionnaire titled the Preventive Practices of Patients Relating to Tuberculosis Prevention into Thai; and assess the validity and reliability of the translated version. The study was conducted in two phases. In Phase I (translation and content validity assessment), the 9-item questionnaire was translated into Thai using a forward translation process, followed by back-translation by professional translators from two university language institutes. The content of the translated version was evaluated by five experts. In Phase II, the reliability of the Thai version was evaluated among 30 people living with HIV who had never been diagnosed with tuberculosis. Participants received care at an antiretroviral clinic of a tertiary hospital in Pathum Thani province in August 2025. Data were collected before and after receiving services, and participants completed the questionnaire themselves. Internal consistency was analyzed using Kuder-Richardson 20 coefficient (KR-20) and test–retest reliability was assessed using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cohen’s kappa. The results showed that the Thai version had linguistic and content equivalence with the original. The average scale-level content validity index was 0.86, which is considered acceptable. The internal consistency coefficient (KR-20) was 0.78, and the test-retest reliability showed an ICC of 0.95, indicating high reliability. These findings suggest that the Thai version demonstrates good psychometric properties and can be applied to assess tuberculosis preventive behaviors among persons living with HIV within the Thai context.
