Outcomes of the Implementation of Clinical Nursing Practice Guideline using Mentor System to Motivate Medication Adherence in Chronic Schizophrenia Patients at Nong Chik District, Pattani Province

Abstract

This research aimed to study the outcomes of the implementation of clinical nursing practice guideline using mentor system to motivate medication adherence behavior in chronic schizophrenia patients at Nong Chik District, Pattani Province during July 2019 - March 2020. The guideline was examined for validity and feasibility before applying to the sample of 30 chronic schizophrenia patients who were purposively recruited to the study. Data were collected using specific assessments and questionnaires developed by the researcher. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. Results showed that: (1) Professional nurses who used the guideline stated that the developed guideline was convenient and feasible for practices; They were satisfied with the guideline at a high to the highest level; (2) Chronic schizophrenia patients had statistical significance different of the mental symptoms scores, knowledge levels, medical adherences behaviors, and costs of care for services between before-and after-the implementation of the guideline (p<.05). The implementation of the guideline resulted in good outcomes for both the chronic schizophrenia patients and the nursing service system.
