This cross-sectional research was conducted to determine factors related to fatigue among bus drivers in a zone of Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, Bangkok. One hundred and sixty two bus drivers were selected using simple random sampling, and interviewed by questionnaire, subjective feeling of fatigue and objective feeling of fatigue using Critical Flicker Frequency test (CFF). Statistical techniques used for data analysis were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Pearson correlation and chi-square.
The findings showed that the average age was 45.04 years old, average work years was 13.37 years, 59.3 % worked 8 hours, 30.9% smoked, 77.8 % had subjective feeling of fatigue after work at a moderate level, 22.2% had a low level, 32.1% had objective feeling of fatigue after work. Factors related to subjective feeling of fatigue included age of the bus ( χ2 = 6.238, p = .004), distance per route (r = -.216), and rest time per route (r = -.188). Factors related to objective feeling of fatigue included age (r = -.307), income (r = -.288), number of children (r = -.318), work years (r = -.317), hours of sleep (r = .281), and duration of exercise ( χ2 = 15.833, p = .001) at the significant level of 0.01. Body mass index (r = -.227), education ( χ2 = 13.919, p = .003), history of illness (χ2 = 4.924, p = .026), doing other job ( χ2 = 8.390, p = .004), angle of seat and backrest (χ2 = 6.183, p = .013), smoking ( χ2 = 8.134, p = .004), duration of smoking (r = -.224), number of smoke per day (r = -.198), exercise ( χ2 = 4.000, p = .045), and social support (r = -.158) were significantly related to objective feeling of fatigue at 0.05. This research can be used for future planning and modification of factors related to fatigue in bus drivers.
