A Curriculum Development of Transformational Leadership Empowerment on Health Behavior for Village Health Volunteers

The purpose of this research was to develop a curriculum of transformational leadership empowerment on health behavior for village health volunteers. The three steps of the study were as follows: 1) to study competencies of transformational leadership on health behavior for village health volunteers by using Confirmatory Factor Analysis, 2) to build a curriculum of transformational leadership empowerment on health behavior for village health volunteers and 3) to implement and assess the effectiveness of the curriculum of transformational leadership empowerment on health behavior for village health volunteers by one-group pretest-posttest design. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and paired t-test. The level of significance was set at .01.

The results of this research yielded a curriculum of transformational leadership empowerment on health behavior for village health volunteers which consisted of six units: 1) The transformational leadership on health behavior, 2) The power of idealized influence, 3) The power of inspiration motivation of the health leader, 4) The power of intellectual stimulation to creativeness on good health, 5) The power of individualized consideration to healthy community, and 6) The transformational leadership on health behavior for village health volunteers. The process of empowerment comprised five steps, namely 1) Experience, 2) Naming experience, 3) Analysis of an experience, 4) Planning, and 5) Action. The results of the program evaluation showed that the subjects had better average scores on knowledge, attitudes and competencies of transformational leadership on health behavior. Their average competencies scores right after the training and one month thereafter did not change.
