This study was a quasi - experimental study with nonequivalent control group pretest posttest design. The purpose of this study was to compare the perceived drinking refusal self efficacy, drinking refusal outcome expectations, and drinking refusal skills between male primary school students participating in the program with those who did not participate in the program. Thirty participants were assigned to each group. Simple random sampling was used to select the subjects for experimental group. The control group was similar in age and GPA with the experimental group. The experimental group received the self-efficacy enhancement program based on the concept of Bandura (1997). Questionnaires were developed by the researchersand adapted from the previous studies. They included demographic data, perceived drinking refusal self-efficacy, drinking refusal outcome expectations, and drinking refusal skills. The reliability of the questionnaires was analyzed by Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient.Percentage, mean, standard deviation, Chi-square test, t-test and ANCOVA were used for data analysis. The findings revealed that the experimental group had significantlyhigher scores of perceived drinking refusal self-efficacy, drinking refusal outcome expectations and drinking refusal skills than the control group. Study results could be used as a guideline for nurses, teachers and people concerned to develop refusal skills for adolescents to prevent them from engaging in alcohol drinking.
