The objectives of this descriptive study were two folds   1) to examine family rituals, family connectedness, and the resilience of adolescents studying in high school and vocational school in Ayutthaya Province and 2) to examine the relationships between these family factors with the adolescents’ resilience. A multi-stage random sample of male and female adolescents aged 15-19 years studying at high schools, vocational schools, and non-formal schools in Ayutthaya Province participated in this study. Four self-report questionnaires which composed of the Personal and Family Background Questionnaire, the Family Ritual Questionnaire, the Family Connectedness Questionnaire, and the Adolescent Resilience Questionnaire were used to collect data. Descriptive statistics, Pearson Product Moment Correlation, and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis were used for data analysis. The Results showed that adolescents reported that their family rituals and family connectedness were at a moderate level while their resilience was rated at a high level. Family rituals and family connectedness were significantly and positively related to the adolescent resilience (r = .615, p<.05, r = .315, p <.05 respectively). Both family rituals and family connectedness contributed to explain 41.3 % of variance of the adolescent resilience.

These results suggest that health care and other related organization should implement programs to promote family rituals and family connectedness in families with adolescents in order to strengthen the adolescents’ resilience and preventing health risk behaviors among adolescents such as drug abuse, unsafe sex, and mental health problems.
