Abstract

Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is a spectrum of inflammatory process in women’s upper genital tract. Around 1  of women with PID need to be hospitalized. Apart from broad spectrum antibiotics which is the main treatment modality, appropriate supportive care and nursing care are as important. For example, the spread of infection can be limited to pelvic area by proper patient’s positioning and delayed detection of deteriorating clinical signs may result in septicemia or death. Nursing care for women with PID also includes prevention of re-infection, onward transmission and sufficient self-care in the long run.
