Abstract

Illustrations play a crucial role in learning. A single illustration can explain content, concepts, or procedures and facilitate accurate understanding. Having illustrations helps enhance memory and attracts the attention of learners, making teaching and learning more effective and allowing the extension of knowledge into various other areas. In medical education, due to the complex and extensive content, having illustrations helps summarize the material into a more easily memorable format, enabling learners to understand what cannot be seen with the naked eye, such as internal structures, cross-sections of organs, and various types of diagrams. This article presents the process of applying Procreate—a user-friendly drawing platform that produces high-quality results—to create medical illustrations. The drawing process is methodical, integrating artistic expertise with consultations from medical content specialists to produce illustrations that are aesthetically pleasing and academically accurate. The illustrations can be used across a wide range of medical educational media. The process can also serve as a guide for medical illustrators, professionals in related fields, and anyone interested in medical illustration to create scientifically precise and visually engaging works.
