Abstract

Cryoablation is an advanced treatment modality for cancer patients, utilizing the Joule-Thomson effect to destroy malignant tumors through cycles of freezing and thawing. This process causes cellular destruction via osmotic shock, ultimately leading to tumor necrosis. Cryoablation offers a distinct advantage in treating tumors located in areas where ultrasound guidance is limited, thus reducing the risk of inadvertent injury to critical structures. The formation of an "iceball" during the procedure enhances real-time ultrasound monitoring, improving procedural accuracy. In Thailand, cryoablation is increasingly used to treat tumors in various organs such as the kidney, lung, and liver. However, this technique carries a high risk of complications during and after the procedure. Proper patient preparation, accurate positioning, and specific procedural equipment are essential to minimizing complications and ensuring patient safety. This article provides essential knowledge on cryoablation and nursing care practices to support interventional radiology nurses and healthcare professionals in delivering effective patient care.
