Abstract

The aims of this study were to examine the predictive relationships between social support and self-care behaviors of diabetes patients’ good glycemic control and to assess the relationships and power of predicting social support on self-care behaviors of diabetes patients’ good glycemic control who admitted to the diabetes clinic at Singhanakhon hospital. The study subjects were conducted from 84 patients. The data were analyzed by using descriptive, Pearson’s correlation and simple linear regression analysis. The study indicated that 1) The overall of social supports of the diabetes patients of the diabetes clinic at Singhanakhon hospital were high (M =2.59; SD= 0.34) and self-care behaviors of the diabetes patients was high (M = 2.44 ;SD= 0.20). 2) Social supports had significantly moderate positive relationships with diabetes patients’ good glycemic control at the level of 0.01 (r= 0.505) and 3) Social supports could predict 25.50 percent of self-care behaviors of diabetes patients’ good glycemic control. This study suggests that the diabetic patients, family members and caregivers should be encouraged to participate in promoting self-care behaviors that enhance the patients to improve self-care behavior and glycemic control.
