Development and Evaluation of Pictorial Medication Label for Warfarin Patients in Raman Hospital, Yala Province

Abstract

The objectives of this project were to develop warfarin label for reducing the incidence of warfarin non-compliance and reducing major bleeding or thromboembolism from non-compliance. Materials and method: The subjects were patients taking warfarin in warfarin clinic, Raman hospital, totally 62 patients The data were conducted from July to December 2017. The author developed auxiliary labels by rubber stamp to create symbols for taking medications and put them at the back of medication bags. Daily dosing was included amount of tablets and color according to warfarin strength that would be stamped on the auxiliary labels, so that it was easier for the patients to understand and notify. Meanwhile, the author made phone calls for every patient who had changed warfarin dosing regimens in the project “Calling love” to ensure patient’s compliance and understanding. Results: Totally 40 patients were recruited for the study. The results showed that the incidence of warfarin non-compliance after use smart warfarin label was significantly decreased (p <0.01). The incidence of major bleeding and thromboembolism from warfarin non-compliance was also significantly decreased (p=0.01) Conclusions: Smart warfarin label can be used as an alternative choice for reducing warfarin non-compliance and reducing major bleeding or thromboembolism from non-compliance to ensure maximize the advantages and decrease the adverse side effects from warfarin.
