Effects of an Application Program on Self-Efficacy with Social Supports on Drug Behavior of Elderly with Uncontrolled Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus of Samat Sub-District, Mueang District, Chonburi Province

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effects of an application program on self-efficacy with with social supports on drug use behaviors among the elderly with non-control type 2 diabetes mellitus.  This study was conducted a quasi-experimental design. The participants were recruited from 50 elderly with non-control type 2 diabetes mellitus aged between 60 and 69 years old. The data were collected by questionnaire interviews before and after the intervention and s analyzed using percentage, mean, standard deviation and Paired Sample t-test.

The key findings indicated that the participants had the higher score for knowledge, self-efficacy and behaviors on drug uses significantly after the intervention (p-value < 0.001). The Program could be employed as a guideline for supporting educational strategies to increase the self-efficacy of the elderly people with type 2 diabetes who cannot control blood sugar levels to lead them changes their behaviors and can be evaluated in the long term.
