The Study of Thunbergia laurifolia Lindl. (Rang Jued) Usage as Antidote

This study was conducted a retrospective descriptive study of Thunbergia laurifolia Lindl. or Rang Jued (RJ) usages in both quantitative and qualitative methods , which aimed to study the remedy for medical treatment using purposive sampling. Study population and subjects were persons who have had experienced using by themselves or close ones, consisting of 16 personnel working at Chumphon Hospital, 45 people in Chumphon Sub-district Health Promotion Hospital and 40 folk healers in Chumphon Province, in total of 101, during May 1, 2012 – April, 30 2013.
This study showed that RJ could be used as treatment of food poisoning, drug allergy, poisoning of agriculture chemicals, urticarial and others. Administration routes were water infusion, fresh chewing, topical application, leaves and boiled roots, and fresh leaves mixed with white liquor to apply to the wound. Onset of relief symptoms was approximately 20 minutes and full recovery period was 60 minutes. For side effects, seven found adverse reactions from using RJ (6.93%) with the following symptoms: hypotension (n=1) lower blood sugar levels, dizziness, and palpitations (n=3), including food poisoning, wild yam and shrimp allergies). The results of this study provide information about diseases and symptoms that can be treated using RJ, dosages, methods in various forms and occurred adverse reactions.
