Health Perception Associated with Health Behavior among Village Health Volunteers in Prasat District, Surin Province

Abstract

This descriptive research aimed to study health perception factors associated with health behavior among village health volunteers. Population in this study consisted of 2,591 village health volunteers in Prasat District, Surin Province. The sample size calculating used Daniel formula for 325 cases, and systematic random sampling was determined for collecting data. Data collected by questionnaires composed of 3 parts including, characteristics, health perception, and health behavior. In addition to check questionnaire standardization, validity was checked and try out testing reliability by Cronbach’s coefficient alpha about 0.851. Data analyzed using statistical as Pearson product moment correlation coefficient. The result showed that health perception factors had mean score with moderate level (=2.93, S.D.=0.26) and health behavior had mean score with moderate level (=3.21, S.D.=0.32). An association analyzed found that, health perception factors was associated with health behavior among village health volunteers in Prasat District, Surin Province, with statistic significant including; perceived risk of illness (r=0.243, P-value<0.001) perceived severity of illness (r=0.213, P-value<0.001) perceived benefit of health behavior (r=0.215, P-value<0.001) and perceived barriers of health behavior (r=0.378, P-value<0.001), respectively.
