The Role of Village Health Volunteers in Advocating Health Promotion among the Elderly at That Sub-district, Warin Chamrap District, Ubon Ratchathani Province

Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) play a role in advocating health promotion and changing health behaviors of people in the community. This research aimed to study the role of Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) in advocating health promotion of the elderly at the That sub-district, Warin Chamrap district, Ubon Ratchathani province. We recruited a total of 98 VHVs from the That sub-district, Warin Chamrap district, Ubon Ratchathani province to participate in our study. Data were collected by a questionnaire. We analyzed the data using descriptive statistics, including frequency distribution, percentage, average and standard deviation. The results showed that most VHVs were female (89.8%), aged between 41-50 years (37.8%), graduated from high school (51.0%), worked in agriculture/were farmers (59.2 %) and had experience working as a VHV for 5-10 years (42.3%). Overall, Village Health Volunteers advocated health promotion of the elderly at a high level ( =2.62, S.D.=0.39). VHVs advocated health promotion regarding the mental health of the elderly at a high level ( =2.69, S.D.=0.36), regarding the elderly’s role in society at a high level ( =2.66, S.D.=0.41), regarding physical health of the elderly at a high level ( =2.61, S.D.=0.40), and regarding the elderly’s role in the economy at a high level ( =2.50, S.D.=0.39).
