Nursing Care of Ectopic Pregnancy with Hypovolemic Shock

A hypovolemic shock in ectopic pregnancy is an Obstetrics and Gynecology emergency that has been most of the maternal mortality in the first trimester. The accuracy and rapid assessment of hypovolemic shock in the emergency room play a significant role in treatment. This study aimed to study the prognosis, the nursing diagnosis, treatments, and outcome of the ectopic pregnancy patient with hypovolemic shock.
Case study: A 38-year-old Thai woman, (G4P2, GA 8 weeks) suffering from lower abdominal pain, diarrhea, and fainting was transferred to the emergency room. The vital signs of the patient showed a hypovolemic shock, occurs immediate resuscitation with intravenous fluid. Five hours later, the patient suffered from severe lower abdominal pain and abdominal guarding. The diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy with a ruptured fallopian tube with hypovolemic shock was confirmed according to urine exam and ultrasound. The patient had been emergency surgery to operate the ectopic pregnancy. The patient was fully recovered in the hospital for 4 days. The hypovolemic shock caused by heavy blood loss from ruptured ectopic pregnancy wound pain, and stress were significant problems in the patient.
Conclusion: The nursing care of ectopic pregnancy with hypovolemic shock was significant and complicated condition in nursing. Patient need to be holistically and continuously cared from a multidisciplinary team to provide care for patients safe from the crisis and quickly recover in an appropriate time that can be a guideline to develop the quality of nursing with effectiveness.
