Abstract

The purpose of this research survey was (1) to study the prevention of unwanted pregnancies among teenagers; and (2) to study factors associated with the prevention of unwanted pregnancies among teenagers in Muang district, Maha Sarakham province. Our sample consisted of 425 teenagers who were between 15 to 19 years old. The research instrument used in this study was a questionnaire. The study was conducted from November 2019 to April 2020. We calculated descriptive statistics, including percentage, average, standard deviation, minimum, and maximum. We also computed inferential statistics, such as Pearson's correlation.

The average number of the unwanted pregnancies prevention among teenagers was 2.40 (S.D.=0.54). The factors with statistically significant associations with the prevention of unwanted pregnancies among teenagers were knowledge (p-value = 0.02), attitude (p-value = 0.01), and media and society (p-value = 0.01). Therefore, to prevent unwanted pregnancy among teenagers, an education system that promotes comprehensive sexuality education and quality life skills should be developed. Moreover, education systems should provide appropriate care and support systems, as well as promote the role of family and community in building relationships and educating teenagers about their sexual well-being.
