Abstract

This descriptive research aimed to study the level of self-protective behavior from dust of workers and factors related to self-protective behavior from dust of workers at rubber wood processing factories in Nathavee district, Songkhla province. The data were sampled 208 by simple random sampling from 400 workers and collected by questionnaires. The knowledge had the confidence value according to the Kuder Richardson formula (KR - 20) was 0.76, while the self-protective behavior had the confidence value according to Cronbach alpha coefficient (α – Cronbach Coefficient) was 0.81. The personal data, knowledge, and self-protective behavior using descriptive statistics were number, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Factors related to self-protective behavior were analyzed by Chi - square Test and Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient.

The results showed that the majority of workers were male 77.4%, aged between 30 - 39 years 38.5%, secondary education 52.4%, marital status 65.9%, average monthly income less than 10,000 baht 91.8%, experience in rubber wood processing less than 10 years 97.6%  no medical problem 98.6% and no training on dust prevention 80.8%. The worker working in the rubber wood processing factories had a good level of self-protection behavior from dust, 115 people 55.3%. There was gender had a statistically significant related to self-protective behavior from dust of workers (P <0.01) and knowledge had a significant positive correlation to self- protective behavior from dust of the workers with moderate relationship (r= 0.514, P <0.01).

Therefore, factories, provincial public health office, hospital should have training, add various media such as brochures, posters or campaign management to provide knowledge about self-protective behavior from dust and promoting appropriate health care behaviors for workers especially, males who have a good level of self-protection behavior from dust below than female. This will result in higher self-protection behavior from the dust of the workers in the rubber wood processing factories.
