Knowledge, Attitudes Affecting Work Safety Behaviors of Solid Waste Collectors of Subdistrict Municipality in Phuket Province

This research is a cross-sectional survey study aiming to 1) study the level of knowledge, attitudes and safety behaviors in the work of solid waste collectors and 2) to study the correlation of knowledge attitudes affecting work safety behavior of solid waste collectors in 9 subdistricts municipality, Phuket province. The samples were 136 solid waste collectors selected by purposive sampling technique and collected data using questionnaire. The statistics were frequency, percentages, mean, standard deviation and Pearson's correlation. The results of the study, the samples had a low level of working safety knowledge and a moderate level of attitude. The work safety behaviors of the samples were good level. However, knowledge and attitudes were related to work safety behaviors of the samples (r=0.323) and (r=0.281) at the 0.01 level of significance. Anywise, Relevant agencies should be trained to increase safety knowledge and create the right attitude to work. Including, there should be monitoring measures for the work of the samples as well as allocating additional staff to allow solid waste collectors to have time to rest will help reduce accidents and increase the safety of the solid waste collectors' work.
