This quasi-experimental research aimed to investigate the effect of gaining the knowledge of Maneeveda and self-exercising in the Maneeveda on blood pressure levels in the high-risk hypertensive group who visited in chronic clinic at Uthai Hospital, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. Sixty patients with high-risk hypertension were were purposively selected according to given requirements of this study. The samples were equally divided into two groups with similar characteristics (an experimental group of 30 and a control group of 30). The study instrument included questionnaires of general information and blood pressure recording form. Descriptive statistics (i.e. percentage, average and standard deviation) as well as paired sample t-test and independent t-test were used for data analysis.
The findings of this study showed that after the intervention, an average of the systolic/diastolic blood pressure levels between the control group (gaining only the Maneeveda knowledge) and the experimental group (having both the knowledge of and the practice in the Maneeveda exercise) was significantly different at the level of 0.05. When compared with the blood pressure levels before the intervention, both the control group and the experimental group had their lower blood pressure levels after the intervention.
This research suggests that Maneeveda self-exercise had their lower blood pressure levels after the intervention in the high-risk hypertensive group.can apply the Maneeveda exercise as a guideline for establishing appropriate activities among the high-risk hypertensive group so that a number of new cases with hypertension would be decreased.
