The Effectiveness of the Herbal Knee Patches to Relieve Pain in Elderly

Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to determine the effectiveness of herbal knee patches to relieve pain in elderly, and to assess satisfaction after using the herbal knee patch. The study subjects were elderly people with knee pain. The subjects were conducted using a purposive sampling in Thonburi District, Bangkok.  Two communities were samplings, including

Wat Yai Sri Suphan Community and Bang Sai Kai community as the control and experimental groups. The sample size was calculated by using G*Power. Participants were randomly assigned into an experimental group (n=40) or a control group (n=40). The experimental group received an herbal knee patch, while the control group received a placebo knee patch. The use of knee patches as needed when symptoms appear and assess pain levels before and after use 5 times.    The finding showed that the experimental group had significantly decreased level of knee pain and decreased more than the control group (p < 0.05) and were significantly satisfied with the use of the herbal knee patch more than the control group at the 0.05 level.
