Abstract

This descriptive study aimed to study public expectations and factors affecting the use of emergency medical services in Pathio District, Chumphon with a sample of 400 people. Simple random sampling was conducted and data were collected using questionnaires from November 2023 to December 2023. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics by multiple regression.

The study results showed that a majority most of the sample group were female, aged between 20 and 29 years, and most had no underlying diseases. They mostly used universal health insurance. The samples participants had a high level of awareness of the emergency medical service system (=4.05, S.D.=0.95) and had high expectations for the emergency medical service system (=4.31, S.D.=0.80). Factors affecting the use of emergency medical services with statistical significance (p-value < 0.05) included having congenital diseases, age, and the additional factor of knowing that there is an emergency medical unit in the community. For expectations of emergency medical services it was found that most people want treatment to be as quick and safe as possible. Emergency doctors will be able to provide basic lifesaving assistance. It is believed that patients will be safe and treated quickly. All classes of patients will be treated equally. The health personnels provide good service, care about people, give good advice and give patients explanations that are easy to understand, easy to contact, and have tools that are ready to use.
