Development of Family - Centered Care Model in Adolescent Mothers of Premature Infants at Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Sawanpracharak Hospital

The purpose of this study were to develop a family - centered care model in adolescent mothers of premature infants and to study the effectiveness of this model. The purposive sample included three groups: 30 adolescent mothers, premature infants and 20 nurses. The study processes were divided into 5 steps :1) analyze problems and study related theoretical concepts (R1) 2) design and developing model (D1) 3) trial on a small group study sample (R2) 4) evaluation and improvement (D2) and 5) trial on a study group (R3) and conclusion. Research tools were consisted of a model of family-centered care, premature care questionnaires of mothers and nurses, satisfaction questionnaires about a family-centered care model for nurses. The content validity of mothers, nurse and satisfied questionnaires were verified by 5 experts. The reliability coefficients were 0.84, 0.73, and 0.89, respectively. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, means, standard deviation and T –test.
The results showed: 1) a family - centered care model were consisted of relationship, providing information about environmental in NICU, providing information about preterm behaviors, teaching and demonstration preterm care, empowerment, and knowledge management with multidisciplinary team 2) there was significant difference of mothers knowledge before and after training for a family - centered care model (p < 0.001) 3) there was significant difference of nurses’ knowledge(p < 0.001) 4) the satisfaction of the nurses’ use of family - centered care model was high level (Mean =4.25, SD =0.53) and 5) breast feedings were on average of 96.60 percentage.
