Quality of life in Thai elders with cervicogenic headache
Main Article Content
Abstract
Previous studies have suggested that headache caused by the cervical spine (cervicogenic headache, Ceh) is associated with cervical degenerative changes and has an impact on quality of life. While Thailand has become an ageing society, there is no study investigating influence of cervicogenic headache on quality of life in Thai elders. This study aimed to investigate quality of life in Thai elders with cervicogenic headache and correlations between quality of life scores and headache variables (frequency, intensity and headache history) and neck disability index (NDI) score. Participants included 25 Thai elders with Ceh (mean age 64.88 ± 3.55 years) and 25 controls (mean age 64.60 ± 3.52 years). Participants in both groups completed the SF-36 questionnaire. The headache group also completed the headache and Thai Neck disability Index questionnaires. The overall results showed that the headache group had poorer health-related quality of life in both physical and mental health than the control group (p < 0.05). Quality of life in physical health summary was negatively correlated with the NDI score (r = - 0.57, p < 0.05). The results of this study suggest that Ceh has an impact on quality of life in both physical and mental health in Thai elders. An optimal Intervention is necessary for improving well-being in Thai elders with Ceh.
