Abstract

This article aims to present the roles and competencies of nurses in preventing Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) infection in males. HPV is the main cause of genital warts and cancer in males. When males contract HPV, it can spread to females or other sexual partner. The implementation of effective HPV prevention is challenging for health care providers because it requires multidisciplinary collaboration. Therefore, nurses must have knowledge and understanding of the important issues surrounding HPV infection in males. The important roles for nurses are teaching and counseling, health assessment and knowledge management. Learning about nurses’ roles will help males and couples to avoid HPV contraction and reduce the risks caused by it.
