Abstract

Victims of colorectal cancer are primarily asymptomatic; thus, most patients often go to see the doctor at a late stage of prognosis. The main treatment of colorectal cancer is surgery. However, cancer cells have likely spread to other parts of the body by this late stage of cancer. Chemotherapy plays a major role after surgery in terms of removing existing cancer cells and increasing the survival rate. During chemotherapy, patients have suffered with physical and mental health problems. Nurses on these health care teams are expected to play a major role of caring and having essential knowledge about chemotherapy administration following Thailand’s Nursing and Midwifery Council protocols, and should also be empathetic with patients undergoing chemotherapy based on the ethics of humanized health-care. This article presents nursing care in terms of pre-chemotherapy, intra-chemotherapy and post-remission stage.
