Development and Evaluation of MedMixBot: A Chatbot for Anticancer Drug Compounding in Hospital Pharmacy Practice

Abstract

Anticancer drug compounding is a complex and high-risk process requiring accurate and timely access to information. However, relevant compounding information is often fragmented across multiple sources, making it difficult to access during routine practice. This study aimed to develop and preliminarily evaluate the usability of MedMixBot, a chatbot designed to support access to anticancer drug compounding information in hospital pharmacy practice.

This research and development study employed a one-group posttest design. Twenty-eight pharmacists from eight hospitals participated in the study. MedMixBot contained a knowledge base covering 10 anticancer drugs, and all participants evaluated all 10 drugs using a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire across four domains: Clarity, Perceived Accuracy, Ease of Understanding, and Attractiveness. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.

The results demonstrated high usability based on 280 drug-specific evaluations                    (28 participants × 10 drugs), with mean scores across all domains (4.70–4.78 out of 5), with Perceived Accuracy receiving the highest score (4.78 ± 0.47). More than 95% of responses were rated in the high range (4–5).

Conclusion: MedMixBot demonstrated high preliminary usability and has the potential to support access to anticancer drug compounding information in hospital pharmacy practice.
