Relationship between Cigarettes Exposure Behavior among People in District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province

This cross-sectional research aimed to study 1) level of knowledge, attitudes and cigarette exposure behaviors of general population in a District of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Factors related to smoking behaviors were examined. Sample consisted of 416 people aged 18 – 79 years who were household representatives. The research tool was a questionnaire. There were 414 people who completed and returned it. Systematic sampling was used. Data were analysed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Chi-square.
Results were as follows.
- About half (52.90%) of participants had knowledge about smoking at a moderate level. Among the 414 people, 68.36% had an attitude towards smoking at a moderate level as well. The percentage of their inappropriate smoking behaviors was 54.11.
- Gender, occupation, family members who were smoking, and attitude towards cigarettes significantly correlated with cigarette exposure behaviors.
Findings from this study suggest that people still have inaccurate knowledge and attitudes at some point. Therefore, there should be a constant campaign on the dangers and harm of tobacco. The problem of cigarette exposure should be solved with community participation, and create a form of prevention to exposure to tobacco in community, in consistent with community's context and values.
