Relationships between Administrative Factors and Surveillance Operations to Prevent and Control Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in Nakhon Si Thammarat

This cross-sectional-descriptive research aimed to study: 1) level of administrative factors, 2) level of surveillance operations to prevent and control of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), 3) the relationship between personal factors, administrative factors, and surveillance operations to prevent and control DHF, and 4) problems and obstacles in performing surveillance, prevention, and control of DHF. The sample was 105 community leaders in Phrom Khiri District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Stratified random sampling was used. The research tool was a questionnaire. Its reliability was tested obtaining a value of 0.984. Data were analyzed by using percentage, mean, standard deviation, maximum, minimum, Chi-square and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Results were as follows.
Overall level of administrative factors for disease surveillance prevention and control was at a moderate level (M= 3.56, S.D.= 0.66). Surveillance operations to prevent and control of DHF was at a high level (M= 3.83, S.D.= 0.66). The overall level of the administrative factors was significantly correlated with the surveillance operations to prevent and control of DHF (r= 0.815, p < .05). Gender, income, manpower, management, time, morale, material and equipment, as well as budget were significantly correlated with the surveillance operations to prevent and control of DHF correlation (r= 0.708, 0.812, 0.802, 0.688, 0.667 and 0.622, respectively, p < .05). The main problems and obstacles in the surveillance operations were insufficient budget, and material shortages.
Per findings, related agencies should concern, and support those administrative factors in operation of DHF surveillance in accordance with the plan of DHF control and prevention. In addition, the promotion of innovation development that is suitable for people’s way of life, and community context should be done.
