A total of 251 registered nurses and executive nurses participated in this study. Instrument for data collection was a questionnaire including two parts: 1) general information, and 2) ethical climate in the organization of community hospitals. Instrument was validated by 3 experts. Data were analyzed using percentages, mean, standard deviation, and independent sample t-test. Results showed as follows.
1. Overall mean score of ethical climate into hospital's organizations as perceived by registered and executive nurses was at a high level (M= 3.62, S.D.= 0.55). Among registered nurses, the highest average score was for honesty at a good level (M= 3.92, S.D.= 0.65), while lowest average score was for justice at a moderate level (M= 3.45, S.D.= 0.76). Among executive nurses, the highest average score was for honesty at a good level (M= 4.06, S.D.= 0.60), while the lowest mean score was for respect of privileges at a good level (M= 3.59, S.D.= 0.55).
2. When comparing each domain, it was observed that the mean score for justice (t= -2.852, p < .01) and veracity (t= -2.163, p < .05), as perceived by registered nurses and executive nurses, were significantly different. However, the mean score of all 4 domains, including respect for autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, and fidelity, were not differently perceived by registered and executive nurses.
This could be used as basic information to promote and develop a better ethical climate at the workplace among nurses into community hospitals.
