This cross-sectional study aimed to explore knowledge and attitudes towards cigarette and smoke exposure among the village health volunteers, and test the relations between knowledge and attitudes towards cigarette and smoke exposure. Participants were 326 village health volunteers (VhV's) from Ronpiboon district of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Simple random sampling was applied. Data were collected using questionnaires, then analyzed by descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficient.
Findings indicated that most of the samples were females of working age. More than half of the family members smoked cigarettes. The majority of the subjects had knowledge about cigarettes at a moderate level (59.51%), and attitudes towards cigarettes at a high level (63.5%) (M= 3.83, S.D.= 0.42). The smoke exposure was at a fair level (M= 2.91, S.D.= 0.38). The attitude towards cigarette was significantly and statistically related to smoke exposure (p<.05).
Per findings, there should be a proactive campaign to reduce the problem of smoke exposure and surveillance diseases caused by smoke through cooperation in the community to become a smoke-free community network.
