Abstract

This cross-sectional research aimed to study factors predicting practices in surveillance and prevention of COVID-19 among Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) in Sichon district of Nakhon Si Thammarat. The sample was 367 VHVs. Systematic random sampling was applied. The research tool was a questionnaire. The data were collected in September 2022, then analysed using percentage, mean, standard deviation and multiple regression.

The results showed that most VHVs (43.72%) had knowledge about COVID-19 at a moderate level (43.72%) while their practices in surveillance and prevention of COVID-19 was at a high level (53.46%). In addition, attitudes, motivation, and social support were at a high level as well (56.51, 89.47, and 98.89%, respectively). After the variable control, the VHVs who had graduated in junior high school, high school or at the diploma level had less performance than the VHVs from primary school (OR= 0.54, 95%CI: 0.30-0.98, OR= 0.48, 95%CI: 0.26-0.87). The VHVs who have worked for six to 10 years were 1.97 times more productive than those who worked less than one to five years (OR= 1.97, 95%CI: 1.05–3.71). In addition, the VHVs with a high level of attitude were 1.85 better workers than those with a medium level (OR= 1.85, 95%CI). Moreover, the VHVs with high motivation to work were 3.96 times better than those with moderate levels (OR = 3.96, 95% CI).

Per findings, the public health administrators should set a policy to retain the VHVs by encouraging their motivation to work. Moreover, they should promote VHVs to participate in risk assessment and risk analysis of their villages.
