Abstract

This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the relationships between perception and self-protective behaviors from Covid-19, and to explore the level of awareness and self-protective behaviors from Covid-19 among village health volunteers (VHV) in rural Thung Song District of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The participants were 242 VHVs, selected with random sampling. Data were collected in March 2022. The research tool was a questionnaire. Its reliability was tested using Cronbach's alpha coefficient, obtaining a value of .893. The collected data were analysed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient.

The results indicated that perceived susceptibility, perceived benefit to the disease   prevention, and perceived severity of the disease, were at a high level (M = 3.85, 3.83, and 3.79; SD = 0.45, .39, and .40, respectively). Perceived barriers to disease prevention was at a moderate level (M=3.38, SD=.45).  Overall, the preventive behaviors from Covid-19 was at a good level (M =3.91, SD=.57). Perceived susceptibility and perceived severity were correlated with self-protective behaviors against Covid-19 at a low level (r = .298 and .292), while perceive benefit was correlated with self-protective behaviors against Covid-19 at a very low level (r= .187).  There was no relationship between perceived barriers and self-protective behaviors against Covid-19.

Per findings, the Ministry of Public Health should continue to implement the D-M-H-T-T-A measure and continue to educate the public and village health volunteers about the Covid-19 infection and consequences of the infection.
