Abstract

This cross-sectional study aimed to examine factors affecting the work performance efficiency of dentists in government hospitals, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The participants were 167 dentists, which was calculated using the formula of Krejcie and Morgan. Then, 119 participants were chosen by the sample random method. The quality of the questionnaire tool was tested by the value of the item-objective congruence index, which ranged between 0.67 and 1.00, and the Cronbach alpha coefficient of the whole questionnaire was 0.98. The data were analyzed with statistical software packages by finding the percentage, mean, standard deviation, and analysis of stepwise multiple regression.

The results showed that the working factors according to the 7S McKinsey conceptual framework were at a high level (M=3.75, S.D.= 0.51). The overall motivation was at a high level (M=3.85, S.D.= 0.49) and the overall performance of dentists was at a high level (M= 3.86,
S.D.
= 0.44). The results from multiple regression analysis found that creative and challenging work, job success, job security, finishing advanced graduate school, being respected, workplace environment, having a history of moving jobs more than two times, and having ability were able to predict the work performance efficiency of dentists in government hospitals in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province at 75.2% (R-Square adj =.752) with a statistical significance of 0.05.

Since the nature of the creative and challenging work is the most important factor that affects the efficiency of the dentist's work, thus, administrators should conduct a study to create challenging dental work within the organization that is different from the traditional routine to motivate dental professionals to develop challenging oral health management work.
