Abstract

This cross-sectional survey research aimed to: 1) examine the level of knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors against COVID-19 among Village Health Volunteers (VHVs), and 2) study the factors related to the preventive behaviors against COVID-19 among VHVs in Thung Song Municipality, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The sample size was calculated to be 238 individuals. Data were collected in September 2022 using a questionnaire. The reliability test of the questionnaire yielded an index of internal consistency (IOC) ranging from 0.67 to 1.00. The KR-20 reliability coefficient for knowledge about COVID-19 was 0.72, while the Cronbach's alpha coefficient for attitudes toward COVID-19 was 0.70 and for preventive behaviors against COVID-19 was 0.70. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient.

The research findings revealed that the majority of the participants, 80.67%, had a high level of knowledge about COVID-19. Additionally, 97.48% had a good level of attitudes toward COVID-19, and 90.76% exhibited appropriate preventive behaviors against COVID-19. Factors positively correlated with preventive behaviors against COVID-19 at a low level were the frequency of COVID-19 training sessions.

Recommendations: Municipal officials of Thung Song Municipality and healthcare personnel should organize training meetings to enhance knowledge and emphasize adherence to COVID-19 prevention measures among Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) consistently and continuously. This is to reduce the spread of the disease in the community and serve as a good health model for the public.
