Keywords:

This one-group pretest-posttest experimental study aimed to compare health knowledge and health behaviors before and after participation in a health literacy and health behaviors enhancement program for older adults. The sample group consisted of older adults residing in Phra Phutthabat Municipality, Phra Phutthabat District, Saraburi Province, aged 60 and above, totaling 45 individuals, selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument used was the health literacy and health behaviors enhancement program, with a content validity index of 0.96, conducted over an 8-week period. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-tests.
The research findings showed that after participating in the health literacy and health behaviors enhancement program for older adults, there was a statistically significant increase (p-value < 0.05) in the mean scores of various aspects, including understanding health information, evaluating health information and services, applying health information and services, dietary consumption behaviors, physical exercise, stress management, fall prevention, oral health care, dementia prevention behaviors, and COVID-19 infection prevention behaviors among older adults. However, regarding the skills in accessing health information and services, there was no statistically significant difference (p-value < 0.05).
This research suggests that the effectiveness of the program activities in promoting health literacy and health behavior improvements can enhance the health knowledge and health behaviors of older adults.
