This quasi-experimental research with a one-group pretest-posttest design aimed to study the effect of the D-METHOD discharge planning program on the knowledge and self-care behaviors of tuberculosis patients in the inpatient ward at Sadao Hospital between October 2023 and April 2024. A total of 27 participants were selected through purposive sampling based on specific inclusion criteria. The research instruments included the D-METHOD discharge planning program, a knowledge test, and a self-care behavior questionnaire, with content validity ranging from 0.67 to 1.00. The KR20 reliability coefficient was 0.71, and the Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.82. Data analysis involved frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Dependent t-test.
The study found that after participating in the D-METHOD discharge planning program, the knowledge and self-care behaviors of tuberculosis patients significantly increased at the statistical level of .001. Therefore, the D-METHOD discharge planning program should be implemented for the discharge planning of tuberculosis patients admitted to the inpatient ward. Additionally, the VDO clips, which are part of the program, should be distributed as educational media via the hospital's television to provide knowledge to outpatients, and the program should be expanded to district health-promoting hospitals.
