This Cross-sectional analytical research aimed to study emotional intelligence and factors related to emotional intelligence. The sample were 336 of the 1st- to 4th year students of the Bachelor of Public Health Program in Community Health program which were recruited from 7 Sirindhorn Colleges of Public Health using multi-stage random sampling method. The research tool was an online questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics by multiple logistic regression analysis.
The results showed that most participants were female (81.85%), aged between 18-21 years (66.96%), studying in the fourth year (37.80%), with a GPA between 3.00-3.55 (46.43%). Most students demonstrated high levels of emotional intelligence (81.85%), Mean =110.43 (S.D.=12.93) The results of multiple logistic regression analysis revealed that factors significantly associated with emotional intelligence (p<0.05) were: high academic achievement motivation (ORadj =4.94, 95% CI: 3.14 – 14.10), high adaptation ability (ORadj =4.49, 95% CI: 2.65-12.08), sex (ORadj =2.22, 95% CI: 1.15 – 9.45) and sex (ORadj =2.22, 95% CI: 1.15 – 9.45) Female students are more likely to have higher emotional intelligence than male students.
The study results of this study indicate that educational institutions should develop stress management skills for students, as the majority were found to have moderate to very high levels of stress. In addition, it is recommended to promote achievement motivation in learning and adaptability, both of which are positively associated with emotional intelligence. Mentorship or counseling systems for students should also be implemented to foster the development of emotional intelligence.
