Factors Related to Burnout Syndrome of Public Health Personnel in Phuket Province

The cross-sectional survey research aimed to study factors related to burnout syndrome of public health Personnel in Phuket Province. The study consists of 302 participants from seven healthcare offices such as Phuket Provincial Public Health Office, Patong hospital, Talang hospital, Chalong hospital, Muang Phuket District Public Health Office, Kathu District Public Health Office, and Talang District Public Health Office by using questionnaires for data collection. Statistical analyses such as frequency distribution, percentages, means, standard deviations, Chi-square, and Pearson Product-Moment Correlation were used for data interpretation.
The research results found that the sample group had high burnout syndrome (29.5%) and low to moderate levels (70.5%) in factors related to burnout syndrome of public health Personnel in Phuket Province, including age (p-value = 0.035), average monthly income (p-value = 0.043), job position (p-value = 0.007), smoking (p-value = 0.025), alcohol consumption (p-value = 0.038), sleep quality (p-value = 0.031), stress (p-value = 0.031), self-efficacy perception (r = -0.202, p-value <0.001), Job factors revealed that work load (r = -0.143, p-value = 0.013), job responsibilities (r = -0.208, p-value < 0.001), organizational policies (r = -0.246, p-value < 0.001). Social Support Factors It was found that family support (r = -0.144, p-value = 0.012), friend support (r = -0.200, p-value < 0.001), and significant other support (r = -0.157, p-value = 0.006) are negatively correlated with burnout.
This study suggests that mental health assessment programs for personnel experiencing high levels of burnout be implemented. If individuals are found to have comorbid psychiatric conditions, they should be referred for appropriate treatment. For those without comorbid psychiatric conditions, activities or work arrangements that help reduce burnout should be organized.
