FACTORS RELATED TO HEALTH-PROMOTING BEHAVIORS FOR STRESS MANAGEMENT OF BANG CHALONG SUB-DISTRICT COMMUNITY, BANG PHLI DISTRICT, SAMUT PRAKRAN PROVINCE

Abstract

               Objective: This study was a descriptive research to study health-promoting behaviors for stress management and to study factors related to health-promoting behaviors for stress management.


               Methods: The sample group comprised 421 persons lived in Bang Chalong sub-district community, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakran province. These samples derived from the multistage random sampling technique. Data were collected from June to December 2014 by using questionnaires created from Pender’s Health Promotion Model. Questionnaires were divided into six sections: personal data, health-promoting behaviors for stress management, perceived benefits of health-promoting behaviors for stress management, perceived barriers towards health-promoting behaviors for stress management, perceived self-efficacy of health-promoting behaviors for stress management, and perceived influences of interpersonal relation towards health-promoting behaviors for stress management. Therefore, data were analyzed by finding percentage, mean, standard deviation, and correlation analysis.


               Results: 1) The sample group lived in Bang Chalong sub-district community, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakran province had a moderate level of health-promoting behaviors for stress management. 2) Perceived benefits of health-promoting behaviors for stress management, perceived self-efficacy of health-promoting behaviors for stress management, perceived influences of interpersonal relation towards health-promoting behaviors for stress management related to health-promoting behaviors for stress management positively with the statistical significance at the .01 level. The correlation coefficients (r) were 0.36, 0.35 and 0.33 respectively. While perceived barriers towards promoting-health behaviors for stress management related to promoting-health behaviors for stress management negatively with the correlation coefficient (r) of -0.16 and the statistical significance at the .01 level.


               Conclusion: These findings suggest that factors of perceived benefits, perceived self-efficacy, and perceived influences of interpersonal relation towards health-promoting behaviors for stress management should be applied to be activities for developing the stress management skills among residents in Bang Chalong sub-district community, Bang Phli district, Samut Prakran province.
