FACTORS PREDICTING THE ADAPTATION TO ONLINE LEARNING OF NURSING STUDENTS

Abstract
Objective: The objective was to predict factors associated with the adaptation to online learning of nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Khon Kaen.
Methods: The study population was first to fourth-year nursing students. Stratified random sampling was used as the sampling technique. The data were collected through a questionnaire consisting of four parts. Part 1 collected general information about the students, while Part 2 assessed their attitudes. Part 3 gathered information about the problems they encountered during online learning, and Part 4 asked about their adaptation to online learning. The data were collected using online techniques via Google Forms and analyzed using multiple regression statistics.
Results: The research results indicated that nursing students at Boromarajonani College of Nursing Khon Kaen adapted highly to online learning (mean = 3.69, S.D. = 0.58). The highest adaptation was observed in the social aspect (mean = 3.98, S.D. = 0.61). The variables that are associated with the adaptation to online learning of nursing students were attitude towards self (r = .658, p < .01), attitude towards the subject (r = .591, p < .01), attitude towards the instructor (r = .464, p < .01) and problems with instructor (r = -.164, p < .05). The variables were analyzed by stepwise multiple regression, and it was found that the factors of attitude towards subject and attitude towards self-had an impact on the adjustment to online learning of nursing students. The regression equation is as follows: Y = 31.39 + 1.811(ATM) + 1.397(ATS).
Conclusion: Educational institutions should encourage students to have positive attitudes towards themselves and their subjects to improve academic achievement. Further research should explore student adaptation to new learning methods or unusual situations using qualitative methods.
