Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to examine the quality of life and the associated factors influencing adolescents living in skipped-generation families.

Methods: A descriptive correlational research design was employed. The sample comprised 406 students from middle school in grades 1-3 who resided in skipped-generation families. Research instruments included: (1) the Social Support Questionnaire, (2) the Parenting Style Questionnaire, (3) the Family Relationship Questionnaire, and (4) the Quality of Life Assessment. The reliability coefficients were .81, .71, .73, and .87, respectively. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and Pearson’s correlation coefficients.

               Results: Findings indicated that the overall quality of life among adolescents in skipped-generation families was at a moderate level (M = 90.59, SD = 13.63). Significant factors associated with quality of life at the .01 level included social support (r = .549, p < .01), family relationships (r = .338, p < .01), and parenting style (r = .318, p < .01).

Conclusion: The results underscore the importance of strengthening family relationships, encouraging supportive parenting styles, and enhancing social support. Psychiatric nurses, health professionals, families, communities, and relevant organizations should collaborate in developing targeted interventions and activities to promote the quality of life of adolescents in skipped-generation families.
