Factors Influencing Psychosocial Status of the Elderly with Chronic Illnesses Who Received Services at Srinarong Hospital Srinarong District, Surin Province during the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Situations

The purpose of this research was to study factors influencing psychosocial status of elderly with chronic illnesses. The subjects in this research were 330 elderly patients with chronic diseases who received services from Srinarong hospital obtained through stratified random samplings. Instruments used in this research were questionnaires as follows: 1) demographic data; 2) knowledge assessment about the coronavirus disease (COVID-19); 3) a perception questionnaire based on Health Belief Model; 4) a questionnaire on cues to action in prevention of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), 5) coronavirus disease (COVID-19) prevention behavior questionnaire; 6) questionnaire on the impact of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on continuous treatment; and 7) assessment of psychosocial status of elderly. The overall reliability of the questionnaires using Cronbach's alpha coefficients was 0.91. The data were analyzed using stepwise multiple regression.
The results revealed that factors influencing the psychosocial status of elderly with chronic illnesses who received services at Srinarong hospital were the impact of the coronavirus on continuous treatment, knowledge of coronavirus disease, and preventive behaviors against coronavirus disease. The three factors could explain the variance of elderly’s psychosocial status for 31 percent at p-value=0.01. The regression equation was: Ŷ = 0.54 (impact of the coronavirus on continuous treatment) - 0.12 (knowledge of coronavirus disease) - 0.14 (preventive behaviors against coronavirus disease).
