Abstract

Nursing students is a group of health science students, who must learn about health science to disseminate, teach, provide care, and educate for clients. Therefore, health literacy is necessary for both themselves, and nursing practice. This cross-sectional analytical study aimed to study factors associated with health literacy among nursing students in Faculty of Nursing, College of Asian Scholars, Khon Kaen province. The data were collected from September to December 2019. The subjects were 196 persons selected by purposive sampling. The research instruments were consisted of 1) Demographic data recording form, 2) Stress Test Questionnaire (ST-5), 3) Perceived self-efficacy questionnaire, 4) Perceived social support questionnaire, 5) Knowledge about health literacy questionnaire, and 6) Health literacy questionnaire. The content validity and reliability of the research instruments were tested. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression.

The results demonstrated that: around half (57.14%) of the sample was categorized as having adequate health literacy. The factors that were significantly associated with demand health literacy among nursing students in Faculty of Nursing included had low levels stress (ORadj=8.54; 95% CI: 3.68 to 19.82), higher levels of self-efficacy (ORadj=7.32; 95% CI: 2.75 to 19.45), monthly income (ORadj=3.60; 95% CI: 1.44 to 5.95), higher levels of knowledge about health literacy (ORadj= 2.80; 95% CI: 1.28 to 6.10), and higher levels of social support (ORadj=2.35; 95% CI: 1.09 to 5.05) respectively. The results of this study could be used as the database to enhance health literacy among nursing students where applicable to health behaviors.
