Abstract

This quasi-experimental research aimed to examine the childbirth pain management promotion program on pain scores and perceptions of childbirth experience among adolescent women in the labor phase. The samples were 60 adolescent women in labor who received maternity services at Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital from August 2020 to
May 2021. The samples were recruited to the study through purposive sampling method. They were divided into an experimental group (n=30) and a control group (n=30). Research instrument used to collect the data was of the perceptions of childbirth experience questionnaire consisted of two parts: 1) general information and 2) the stillbirth experience questionnaire. Three experts reviewed the instrument and it had a content consistency index (CVI) of 0.85. The instrument’s reliability was tested yielding the Cronbach's coefficient alpha of 0.93. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and an independent t-test.

The findings revealed that the average pain scores during the cervical opening of 4-7 cm. was statistically different for both groups at p=0.05, while the average pain scores during cervical opening of 8-10 cm. was not different in both groups. When comparing the average perceived birth experience score between both groups, the mean score was 120.00 in the control group and 116.23 in the experimental group. The average scores of both groups were not statistically different.
