Media Literacy about the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Outbreak of Undergraduate Students of Praboromarajchanok Institute

This cross-sectional descriptive research aimed to study media literacy about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak of undergraduate students of Praboromarajchanok Institute. The population was undergraduate students of all years from colleges under Phraboromrajchanok Institute. The samples of 1,045 students were recruited using convenient sampling technique. The instrument used as an online questionnaire was consisted of: part 1-demographical dada including gender, age, grade level and residential area, and part 2-media literacy about COVID-19 according to the conceptual framework of UNESCO that covers 4 dimensions: media accessibility, media analysis, media evaluation, and creativity. The reliability of the instrument using Cronbach’s alpha coeficient of the instrument was 0.78. The data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations.
The results showed that the samples’ average overall media literacy about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak of (Mean=3.6, SD=0.399), media accessibility (Mean=4.22, SD=0.713), media analysis (Mean=3.68, SD=0.463) and media evaluation (Mean=3.69, SD=0.458) were at a high level. As for media creativity, the score was at a moderate level (Mean=2.92, SD=0.970). The results of this research can be used to promote and develop media literacy about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak for undergraduate students in health sciences.
