Evaluation and Technology Transfer of Dementia Screening through Dementia U-Care Application in Banhuadon Community, Khueng Nai District, Ubon Ratchathani Province

This cross-sectional study aimed to assess the results of application-based dementia screening for community use. There were two groups of participants: eighty older adult participants, aged fifty years and over, and five personnel in Banhuadon Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital, Khueng Nai district, Ubon Ratchathani province. A prototype application was developed from the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) to assess the participant group and convey methods for dementia screening using the application in Banhuadon Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital. The research tools were consisted of tablet, the Dementia U-Care application, Dementia U-Care Application users’ handbook, general record form, and two satisfaction surveys, separated by the research groups.
The results of dementia screened by the application spent an average of 13.06 ± 2.172 minutes on the test. The overall satisfaction level is strongly satisfaction at 9.54 ± 0.90 out of the 10 scores. Moreover, the overall satisfaction was inversely associated to the skill to use technology devices (r=-0.221; p=0.04) and the time spent on the test (r=-0.270; p=0.01). The personnel group of Banhuadon Sub-district Health Promoting Hospital showed a strong satisfaction, based on the 5-point Likert scale assessment.
In conclusion, the satisfaction results from both groups were at strong satisfaction levels. There is a feasibility in the future to use more medical technology to reduce the burden on health professionals and enhance their ability to diagnose and treat dementia patients earlier.
