Effects of a Training Program for Managing Violent Behavior in Psychiatric Patients and Drug Addicts to the Knowledge, Attitude and Confidence in Management of Atsamat Hospital Personnel, Roi Et Province

Abstract

This single-group quasi-experimental research measured pre- and post-experimental results with objective to compare average scores on knowledge, attitude, and confidence in managing psychiatric patients and drug addicts with severe aggressive behavior. Sample group was comprised of 30 personnel from Atsamat hospital, Roi Et province. Tools included: 1) training program for managing violent and aggressive behavior that was checked for content validity by three experts yielding a content consistency index value of 0.97, 2) a measure of knowledge, attitude, and confidence in managing psychiatric patients and drug addicts with severe aggressive behavior with Cronbach's alpha coefficient values of 0.87, 0.97, and 0.93, respectively. Data were analyzed using frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, and two-group t-test statistics for correlations.

Research results showed that hospital personnel, after receiving a training program to manage aggressive behavior in psychiatric patients and drug addicts, their average scores on knowledge, attitude, and confidence in managing psychiatric patients and drug addicts with severe aggressive behavior were significantly higher than those before receiving the program at 0.05 significance level.
